That's it, my friend. Those are the 4 steps to using Canva like a G. If you haven't heard the saying “like a G” before, G stands for grad student (not really---it means gangsta), and it's what happens when you master that one thing you couldn't quite get.

Well, for me, Canva + Instagram threw me a curve ball, and I had to figure out how to make it work for me. So, I did just that. I worked for hours learning to create my Instagram highlight cover. After days and a few choice words, I figured it out, and I'm here to share what I learned.

Step 1: Open up Canva. Canva is a beginner-friendly graphic platform that allows you to create beautiful drag and drop images, presentations, or infographics using their templates and designs. You can upgrade to a business account to include your own brand colors and information. The FREE version can and will get the job done if you are looking to create something quick.

Step 2: Choose your graphic layout and design. There will be several options on the Canva website or app, choose the one you’d like to create for Instagram. Add your brand colors, the image you like, and the text you’d like to include. Once you’re finished, download it to your computer or save it to your phone.

For the Instagram highlight cover, click the create a design button and type in Instagram story. Once template is open, upload your Mozak Instacover design.

Click on the cover and drag it to the blank template. Position the design to the far left corner. Drag the bottom right portion of the design until it completely covers the blank template.

Step 3: Head over to Insta. Once you’ve created the graphic, log into Instagram.

Step 4: Add a custom Highlight Cover. Go to your static profile page, tap the + button for Instagram Stories, choose the stories you want to highlight, then hit NEXT. Name your Highlight, pick the graphic you made in Canva, and tap ADD. Viola! You’ve added a custom Highlight Cover. This highlight cover will work on Instagram until you’re ready to change it for another one you have made.
